COVID-19 has led to unprecedented changes in the world. The spread of the SARS-CoV-2 virus across the globe has infected millions of people, affected economies, reduced social interactions, affected education systems, and stressed medical supply chains and personnel. Of the millions that have been infected, approximately 5% of these become critically ill, many dying. IDT provides many different products that are available for researchers studying SARS-CoV-2. In this webinar, learn how some of our customers are using IDT products in their research against this deadly virus.

IDT was the first company in the nation to have our primer and probe kits approved by the US CDC for use as a key component of the CDC EUA testing protocol for the diagnosis and detection of COVID-19. In the first part of this webinar, Mitch Gore PhD, our Field Application Manager for qPCR and oligo products, presents how IDT’s highly sensitive and low background double-quenched qPCR probes and primers and gBlocks™ Gene Fragments are used in CDC EUA kits to test patients for SARS-CoV-2. He also describes our most recent products based on the WHO-Charité/Berlin panel.

In the second part of this webinar, Bran Bugarija PhD, our Field Application Manager for CRISPR and Functional Genomics, will explain how IDT CRISPR products are being used to create different types of lateral-flow detection systems for SARS-CoV-2 virus. Lateral-flow diagnostic kits are a key step to help diagnose COVID-19 in areas of the world that do not have access to qPCR thermocyclers and specialized personnel.

Not only do patients require accurate tests, but the fight against this virus requires a clear understanding of its origins and spread throughout the globe. In the last segment of the webinar, Ashley Dvorak, our Field Application Manager for Next Generation Sequencing, explains how the use of IDT’s sequencing products is being used to evaluate research into the epidemiology of the global pandemic by tracing the number and location of genetic mutations in SARS-CoV-2.
